Cacao comes from the seeds of the fruit of the cacao tree. Cacao nibs are the bean after it has been roasted, taken out of its husk and broken into little pieces. The tropical tree that produces cacao is called Theobroma Cacao. Theobroma means “food of the gods.” The uses of cacao for health dates at least 3000 years. Cacao nibs have more antioxidant activity than tea, wine, blueberries and even goji berries.
